Our winery continues to produced quality Cabernet Sauvignon. This vineyard uses only selected hand harvested fruit in the ultra-premium years, as showcased with the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wine displays great depth & width of flavour, with ripe, silky tannins. Classic Cabernet cassis sits alongside smoky, spicy oak and more complex notes of violets, tobacco and dark chocolate. This wine seamlessly provides a balance of vibrant Cabernet primary fruit qualities complimented by spicy complexity
Tasting Notes
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon displays a dense and Bright, with purple hue. With aromas of Black forest fruits with concentrated black olive and mulberry, creating complexity. The palate remains supple and elegant, this wine first displays blackberry and dense plum which lead to an elegance nutmeg and cassis. Persistent dark fruit and fine grained tannins create a refined and persistent palate.Vintage
The Vintage conditions throughout the early red harvest continued to be optimal conditions with long warm days and extreme heat waves of 40 degrees plus leading to excellent ripeness and primary fruit characters. The hand harvesting process was carried out to select only the most premium fruit, therefore lower yields where seen. The Cabernet Sauvignon was hand harvested on the 20th of February with the optimal conditions prevailing with long warmer days, leading to excellent ripeness and primary fruit characters. Fondly known as ‘The Great Australian Red’ McLeish Estate 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz is a unique Australian blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon (traditional Bordeaux varietal) and 20% Shiraz (traditional Rhone varietal). The blend exhibits vibrant currants and cranberry aromas. Rich layered, black cherry fruit with underlying earthy, cedar and leafy herbs completes the structure. Long and persistent, with a fine tannin and impeccable balance.
Vineyard Our Shiraz vineyard was established in 1985 with the vines being hand harvested. Cropping is undertaken- thus ensuring low yields and high quality and intensely flavored fruit. The vineyard soil is quite typical of the Hunter Valley with a mixture of sandy loam and red volcanic clay . Food: Tomato pasta dishes and Cheeses, ideally Saint Agur. Tasting Notes Generosity of fresh lemon, lime and passionfruit flavour articulate this classic Hunter Semillon. The palate is intense yet elegant and crisp, with great line and length. A wine of great drive and extraordinary finesse. This wine is built to cellar as a benchmark example of Hunter Valley Semillon. Vintage McLeish Estate started harvesting the Semillon on the 30th of January. Vineyard Our Semillon is hand harvested from vines grown in friable red duplex loam soil at Pokolbin in the Lower Hunter Valley.– the vines, planted in 1985 – consistently producing the purest and brightest signatures of Hunter Semillon.
