This is McLaren Vale Shiraz at its finest. From the acclaimed ‘Jones Block’, this wine is well regarded for its generous, yet elegant style. A small parcel was selected from our century old vines for complex fruit flavours and seamless structure. Grapes are hand pruned; wine is aged in fine grained French and American oak. As always, no corners cut. A rich, savoury and spicy blend, this wine has a fleshy middle palate and great length. Enjoyed with food, a glass or three of Paxton is certain to spice up the evening.
Quandong Farm Shiraz is a single vineyard wine that aims to highlight the intensity and brightness of fruit grown using biodynamic techniques. Our farming practices are designed to produce wines of intensity, but also with layers of texture, flavour and interest for the consumer. We think this wine exhibits these characteristics and provides both concentration and flavour and a certain delicacy, rather than simple raw power.
The extremely limited Cracker Barrels is the result of winemaker Richard Freebairn selecting up to 4 barrels which he considers to be of the highest quality or ‘Crackers’ each vintage. The 2016 vintage Cracker Barrels has been selected from a single parcel of Shiraz and Cabernet from Jones Block, the barrels are 100% French with no new oak. The wine has terrific intensity and depth of flavour, supported by subtle oak which makes this powerful Shiraz with small blend of Cabernet a pleasure to drink now and well into the future.
Graciano is a Spanish varietal grown primarily in the Rioja region. After some research David Paxton decided to graft one row of Graciano onto some old Chardonnay vines at Thomas Block to see what the result would be. When you try this wine, we think you will agree that the variety is well suited to the conditions of McLaren Vale. Lighter in body with distinct savoury and white pepper characters filled out with bright red fruits. Light tannins make this wine ready to drink young, although cellaring potential is in the medium term.
Our Thomas Block vineyard is extremely unique, and experiences colder than average McLaren Vale mornings, and warm summer days, providing the perfect ripening conditions for producing the most elegant of red wines; this Grenache is no exception.
